Funky Buddha began with a small brewpub in Boca Raton brewing unconventional-yet-exceptional beer in odd-but-outstanding ways. Not much more than 10 years later, they’re become Florida’s most popular brewery and taproom, and a big, bright, funky star in the Constellation Brands portfolio.

CHALLENGE

Elevate the brand without dropping the funk.

Funky Buddha built a name for itself on good beer and good vibes, but the brand’s packaging wasn’t pulling its weight on the shelf. Funky Buddha hired Moxie Sozo to give the brand a new look, reconnect the brand with its funky roots while establishing a more cohesive brand look and feel across its portfolio, including core beers, limited releases, and hard seltzers.

SOLUTION

Funky Buddha is a brand that radiates good vibes. It seemed only fitting that the new packaging should do the same. It began with an evolved logomark, which became the heart of the package. Around that core mark, we created a unique mandala for each SKU, creating a unified design system that allowed for each beer and seltzer to tell its own story. The brand’s laid-back typeface and vibrant color palette reinforce its fun-loving, free-wheeling personality, and the illustrative elements created a branded world that’s uniquely Florida—and uniquely Funky Buddha. The new design system lent itself seamlessly to other media as well, including an updated website, advertising campaign, and marketing materials.

RESULTS

Shoppers weren’t the only ones who loved the new brand. Nine months after the launch of its new packaging, Funky Buddha’s sales were up 20% and show no signs of stopping.
